At the beginning of the season, I wrote a post about how much I loathe cooking steaks under the broiler in the oven. I’ll say it again: there’s nothing like the ability to cook steak on a grill. You simply cannot get the same delicious flavour and gorgeous look by throwing your steak in the oven under the broiler (or at 400 degrees for an hour), it just doesn’t happen. Continue reading
Last Sunday, I did a bit of cooking. Josh and I went to the grocer to pick up some things. At first it was looking like we’d be having pan seared duck breast and goat cheese polenta… and then we found out that the grocer’s butcher doesn’t carry duck. They do, but they’re rather extremist about it; either you buy a whole duck, or you get an already teriyaki marinaded petite breast. I was unimpressed by this and decided that instead we’d do steak and twice baked potatoes instead. Why twice baked potatoes? They were something new and I’d had really good ones Saturday while I was in Rhode Island.

Thursday through tonight has been a celebration of my birthday. It was supposed to end last night with Stuffed Shells and family time with Mum, Dad, and my 2 sisters, but things got crazy: I had work, dad worked, and my sisters weren’t really home. Continue reading

Just when I thought yesterday would be a wash, what with a failed omelet for brunch and then this awful pasta that makes even the most strong stomach’d of people wince, Mum called asking what we wanted for dinner. It was peculiar in that I was going to suggest chicken when she told me that Sydney had said she wanted Moe’s. Continue reading
Simplicity is nice, isn’t it? When you haven’t got much time or a full cupboard, it’s nice to relish in simpler foods. Perhaps you’re feeling, pardon the assumption, lazy, yet crave something that You haven’t had in a while that takes time and effort to do? There’s a solution for that. No, it’s not going out to eat (yes, going out to eat is great, once in a while. You shouldn’t always eat out as a solution to home cooking. I don’t care if your cooking is awful, if you want to know how to cook, the solution, like most everything else, is to cook more often. Don’t be lazy and order out or make foods that you know you can cook, again). It’s as simple as substitution. Even if you’re not jonesing for that grand food, simplicity is under-appreciated. Is it that time, already? Goodness. As is the usual, I’ve found myself quite the quiet corner and I’m relaxing. I’ve just finished washing and drying all of the dishes (there were quite a few, goodness Me) but it was well worth it. Dinner was absolutely phenomenal. As was voted for, I made the steak and shrimp parmesean. But before I really launch into the story, perhaps *You* ought to get comfortable, hm? Kick back with a drink of choice because as like last week, I have quite the story to tell… Continue reading
Happy Monday Morning.
I hope your weekend was well, and you’ll have to excuse my blog about popcorn, it happens. Anyways, it’s a new week and I’ve found myself at an odds. I have three different dishes that I want to try, all great in their own aspects, however, I’m unsure of what to cook first. Perhaps, if I’d gotten some sleep (I haven’t slept yet), this would be a no brainer. But, long story short, I would really love to see what YOU think. Continue reading
